Friendship That Lasts an Extra Long Time

After talking with my closest childhood friend, I realized we've been friends for nearly 25 years.  People who were 25 were really old to us when we met, so it amazes me that not only are we now older than 25, but we've been friends nearly that long!  She knows everything about me, she's the one friend (aside from Army) who I don't freak out about crying in front of, and I can't imagine life without her in it.  She's always been there for me when I needed her, and I've been with her through some unimaginable times too. No matter what the situation, without fail, she can always put a smile on my face.  Trips down memory lane together leave us giggling like school girls.  Everyone needs a K in their lives!

So, how many years have you known your best friend?  For the record, I don't think a friend has to be a friend for a long time to be a great friend. K and I were inseparable after knowing each other for a matter of a few weeks.  We just clicked that well.

My best friend from school, I have known since 8th grade so 23 years!

Wow, that makes me feel old, lol. We don't always talk weekly or even monthly, but when we do it is just like no time has passed.

My DH (my bestest friend forever) have known each other 17 years, together for 12, married for 9 this month. When I met him I felt as though I had known him my entire life, and he made me feel safe and completely comfortable.

The only people I'd consider as "best friends" are my husband & sister. So, since I've know my sister all my life, or rather, all hers since she's 4 years younger than me, I guess that makes it 46 & 26 years.

I've known my best friend for about 23 years. She was my maid of honor and I miss her terribly since we moved.

Husband not included, I'm not sure I even have a best friend. My aunt (who is 10 years older than me) would probably be the closest, though I have many good real life friends and many good internet friends :)

I guess this is what happens when you move 2000 miles away from your home for a boy?

Aside from Gus, my friend Jodi is my best friend. We met in college and then were roommates after we graduated. So I've known her 11 years!

My best friend - Kelly - and I met when we were 10. And were instant friends (as only 10 year olds can be!!) We remained best friends for 20 years until she died of cancer at the way too young age of 30. Last month, her daughter who is 6, stood in her memory as my maid of honor at my wedding.

But I get tickled when I think that we were friends for 20 years. I mean, I can't be that old can I????

Every now and then I go through friendship-identity crisis. In that I just really don't know who and what is a friend. I always had friends for a long time. One person I was "friends" with for 37 years before I realized it was kind of a weird excuse for a friendship. Another friend I have had for 33 years but we never see each other or talk anymore, but it's okay. I had a friend at the beginning of 2nd grade that I stayed close to until I moved going into 7th grade. Now, though, it's different. I have a couple of people I do things with, a couple of people I only talk to through e-mail/text/phone, and then blog friends. Right now, there is not one single person I can think of that would accept me 100% just as I am, and that I would call a best friend. He died over 7 years ago and, I don't know...I guess all I can say is, I guess he saw something no one else does.

23 years for B, my best friend since (as my Mom said) we spied each other across a parking lot & ran out of our Mother's grasp and HUGGED each other. We are not hugging types. But we did. And we still are besties. And she will be in my one-day wedding party.

7 years for A, my one-day-maid-of-honor #1, who I still call almost every day to tell her I'm dying/life is over. She tells me it isn't.

3 years for PAG, my one-day-maid-of-honor # 2 who man, it was dislike at first sight...and then we got over it. Now we shop & brunch & cry & know exactly when the other one needs to get home, put on PJ's and have someone hand them a big glass of red wine.

Let's see...

SL & I have been friends for...um... 18 years I think. We talk almost every day, usually many times. This new job is seriously cutting into our talk time!

BS is my oldest pal, we've been friends since before teen was born, so that makes... ummm... 22 years? We don't see each other much, and talk at least once a month or so.

ETS is my Southern belle friend, and we've been friends for almost 10 years. We go long times without seeing each other or even talking, but as soon as we do we're right back in the middle of our awesome crazy friendship.

SF is my newest BFF... I think it's been about 8 years. We used to work together, and had mutual friends, and we just ended up becoming really close.

NL is my other long term very close friend. We've known each other for close to 10 years as well. We talk almost every day, either by phone or IM.

Of course I have other friends, but those are the ones I depend on, who are always there no matter what.

My best friend, Bedford Falls, from over the pond extends back a ridiculous 29 years. Oh dear, that makes me feel very old. But now I get a few amazing friends in Chicago who can bring balance to the 29-year thing, as they are just on the < 1 year time-scale.

My best friend and I have been friends for 24 years. We met the first day of my freshman year of high school. I could tell her anything and vice versa. I love her!

My best friend and I met at summer camp the summer before Senior year of high school. This summer, it has been 19 years. We've never been closer than 5 hours from each other until I moved to TX, and now we live a mere 45 minutes apart. Whereas in the past we've gone years w/o seeing each other, we can now do stuff together once a month! It's the BEST having a Best friends who's grown up with you.

Claire (by the way, I LOVE your name!),

I clicked on your blogger name, but it didn't have a blog link. Just wanted to welcome you and say thanks for stopping by. We're not exactly the same age, but we're pretty close! :)
