Extra Yummy!

Let's talk drinks.  I'm thinking of getting Army a margarita maker for his birthday. I'm a little concerned it would be a waste of money though.  I think we'd use it, but I'm just not sure.  We use our porch a lot, and it's not uncommon for Army to enjoy a drink out there.  We're not super heavy drinkers, but we're certainly not against drinking.  Our new house is pretty great for entertaining, so I'm pretty certain we'd use it then too.  I'm considering one of the Margaritaville ones.  Anybody have one they love or hate? If you have one, do you actually use it? Good gift/bad gift? Thoughts?

My parents swear that rather than buy a 'fancy' blender or frozen drink machine, go to your favorite high-volume Mexican restuarant and find out what kind of blender they use all night long. Then order one from a restuarant supply store. They've had the same blender for *years* and it has never burnt out, it pours well, and manages to blend every last piece of ice.

I don't know nuthin' 'bout margarita makers but my first impulse would be to tell you to just get a good blender. My blender died a few months back & I researched to find out what blender would do a good job of smushing up ice. I got an.... (hang on, gotta look at it...) Osterizer. No clue what model but it only has 2 speeds and a big, heavy glass uh, pitcher thingie. We've been married 24 years and have gone through a whole bunch of blenders. This one is by far the best. We made some pina coladas that came out amazing. No large chunks of ice, just smooth & damn good.

I think Daisy Duke and Monk both have the right idea. On the other hand, however, a friend of mine just got a Margaritaville for her Dad for his birthday, and they had a blast to putting it to good use the whole day. It made excellent drinks and was just kind of a fun novelty thing that I don't think is TOO expensive--which is your first clue it's not gonna last forever. The good blender will cost a pretty penny but will be with you for many years to come. Just depends on what you want. I personally think twisting off the cap to a Bud Light with Lime is pretty darn good. BWAHAHAHAHA!

One of those questions we baptists frown upon.....but that said I like a good blender (or I would if I ever made daiquiri's or some other kind of drink I know nothing about)....I have a bunch of fresh strawberries and you are giving me an idea....fresh strawberry daiquiri's...err I mean smoothies..yeh thats it.
The only problem with that is that a blender does not seem like a very manly gift so you may have to go with the margarita maker to make him feel manly.

I bet if you bought him a good blender (which are great for smoothies as well....I make smoothies all the time)and paired it up with a great bottle of tequila & triple sec & a bag of limes he'd have a great time. Plus then you could get yourself some fun margarita glasses & enjoy!!

Growing up my parents would make margaritas if we had people over for a BBQ & they'd always make a batch of kiddie cocktails first- apple juice + ice + a few strawberries and my brother and I though we were just soo cool.

I think the machine sounds like a fun idea, but yeah I gotta agree with the others that a blender is probably a decent investment.

We use our blender. I am anti-one-use-only appliances. But that's just me :)

We have a Margarita machine and I love it. This is our second pool season with it. We also use it to make snow cones for the kids (it shaves ice) and as a blender for smoothies and such.

YUM!
